The ideal candidate will have expert programming experience with a strong background in biology. As a Software QA Engineer, you will have the chance to apply your software skills and biological knowledge to test the largest biological ontology in the world. You will work with a dynamic and hard working team to help improve the quality of our scientific knowledge base, our flagship product, Ingenuity Pathways Analysis as well as new emerging projects. You will work closely with various groups including Development, Science Teams, and Quality Assurance, to find and correct individual and systematic problems, identify ease-of-use issues, and find the best models for executing and reporting our scientific tests. Your responsibilities will be to work with the team to meet quality standards by testing Ingenuity products using a variety of test techniques as well as writing test plans, test cases and reporting testing status. Using your expertise you may be asked to design an efficient easy to use test harness. You may also be asked to contribute in an assortment of ways to help the company succeed and help our customers better the world. This position is full time or contract to hire. |

| Required Skills:
- CS degree or 7+ years experience in writing and testing software. - Biology degree, biology classes or related scientific job experience with an exposure to molecular biology, cell biology, organic chemistry, or biochemistry - Team player who would enjoy working with cross-functional group of engineers, scientists, software developers, logicians, and product managers - Self-starter, who is detailed, thorough, organized, and has proven ability to prioritize and scope work - Excellent logic, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills - Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Experience writing Java code - Scripting experience with Perl or Python - Experience with SQL and database design - Proficiency in Unix and Windows operating systems - Experience manipulating XML and large data files - Experience with QA techniques and methodology: developing test plans, designing, implementing, executing and analyzing test cases, writing bug reports, and assessing risk - Experience with version control software like CVS or Subversion Desired Skills - Familiarity with viral and bacterial pathogens, host-pathogen interaction, disease response, infection and inflammation pathways. - Hands on familiarity with bench and wet-lab procedures and work flows, especially in the areas of microarrays, gene expression analysis, toxicology, biomarkers, tissue expression - Familiarity with ontologies, specifically bio-ontologies (GO, MeSH, UMLS) - Familiarity with general bioinformatics databases and computational biology resources (NCBI Entrez Gene, KEGG, PubMed) - Experience in one or more of the following: bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, Information Retrieval, data mining, ontology, semantic web, Artificial Intelligence, - Ability to interpret findings in scientific literature |
