Description:

The individual in this position will procure natural gas supply from wholesale suppliers to cover daily supply needs and forward retail sales.



Responsibilities and Duties:

Trading

· Gather data and analyze daily supply requirements at all LDCs, and recommend daily action plan to include purchases/sales of natural gas, storage injections/withdrawals, interruption of retail customer load, and movement of supply between LDCs (primary responsibility)

· Coordinate preparation of natural gas portfolio daily position report (primary responsibility).

· Procure natural gas supply from wholesale suppliers to cover daily supply needs (primary responsibility)

· Procure natural gas supply from wholesale suppliers to cover forward retail sales (joint responsibility).

· Execute Nymex triggers to cover fixed price retail sales (backup responsibility)

· Identify opportunities to release excess pipeline capacity to minimize supply costs (backup responsibility)

· Evaluate forward supply portfolio versus expected retail sales, and identify physical supply needs for future months/seasons, including identifying periods that require additional Nymex-triggerable volumes.

· Comply with the Supplier Credit Policy.

· Develop and maintain business relationship with wholesale suppliers and utility contacts.

· Monitor current natural gas market conditions and initiate strategies to improve and maintain margins.

· Maintain large customer relationships such as DESC and others.

· Monitor Interstate Pipelines and utilities for capacity release notices, and identify capacity opportunities for WGES portfolio.

· Monitor, adjust, and recommend strategies to maximize gas profits at interstate pipeline pooling points.

· Monitor Interstate Pipelines for capacity restriction notices, advise impact on WGES scheduled flows, and recommend appropriate actions to avoid potential pipeline cuts and penalties.

· Assist with month end closing process and first of month portfolio setup.



Risk Management

· Review and approve all retail sales contracts submitted by Marketing staff (backup responsibility).

· Comply with the Risk Management Policy and the Risk Control Procedures Manual.

· Input wholesale purchases and retail sales into intra-month portfolio model.

· Review commercial customer contract data entered into tracking spreadsheets and Oracle database.

· Work with marketing and operations to develop, maintain and improve natural gas pricing models.

· Record retail sales contracts in commitment hedge report.

· Monitor and forecast natural gas storage levels.

· Support data requirements of WGES Finance staff.

· Review and analyze LDC tariffs for nomination and balancing risks.

Required Skills:

The ideal candidate must be able to work independently with little supervision and possess a thorough understanding of the physical energy business.

Minimum 4 years business or analytical experience, including a minimum of 2 years experience in trading or natural gas supply management in a trading environment. An understanding of physical energy business, energy commodities and regional energy markets. An understanding of financial markets theory and derivatives. Ability to work accurately with numbers. Must be willing to be creative and deal with uncertainty.



Desired:

Advanced proficiency in Excel, Access/Oracle



Education:

Bachelor Degree in Finance, Math, Accounting or other business or quantitative discipline.MBA a plus.
