Description:
Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the Engineering Manager is responsible for the development of next generation products and enhancements of current products. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills and have experience in the search industry. Candidates must have deep familiarity with Web application development and Web protocols and must have experience delivering high-availability Internet applications.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage a team of developers responsible for the development of a next-generation search engine
Manage day-to-day decisions of project teams, work assignments and product delivery
Create detailed development plans, prioritize work assignments and assign projects based on available resources
Set clear objectives for direct reports and compare deliverables against objectives
Collaborate with the engineers to ensure that all applications developed are maintainable and configurable and that all processes are well-documented.
Ensure that the development team is following a defined development process throughout the product lifecycle
Provide guidance and training to engineers, motivate individuals to achieve results, recruit and maintain a high quality staff

Required Skills and Experience:
Position requires a minimum 10 years of previous experience, with 6 years of management or team leading experience with several of the following technologies is essential: server-side application development, HTML (using non-WYSIWYG authoring tools), Javascript, SQL (Oracle and others), integration of 3rd-party APIs, UNIX/Linux platform, and exposure to the wireless industry
Experience with the following is desirable: J2ME, cHTML, WML, WMLScript, wireless application development and delivery.
Strong Java development experience with special emphasis on wireless or web applications
Demonstrated experience developing high-performance, high-availability, scalable applications
Able to work well with Product Management to refine specifications into something that can be delivered on-time and on-budget
Proven track record of on-time, on-budget application delivery.
Capable of delivering presentations and demos to customers in a professional manner
Ability to manage many projects simultaneously
Excellent problem-solving skills with strong focus on execution
Ability to work with all levels of the organization and motivate employees
Strong business acumen and professionalism, with solid communication skills both verbal and written

Education:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a Four-Year College or University; or equivalent combination of both education and experience.
