Description: Summary:



Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is seeking a Director, CMS and Application Development, with a minimum of 5-7 years experience in designing, planning and implementing projects for high traffic Internet sites and mobile platforms from end-to-end.





Duties and Responsibilities:



This is a management position: The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years managing application development teams, with excellent communication qualities, a desire to mentor colleagues and prioritize projects and tasks in alliance with company goals.



This is a thought-leadership position: The ideal candidate will have the ability and desire to brainstorm ideas, do research, remain current with industry trends and best practices, investigate and present options and collaborate with colleagues on continuously developing new and improved solutions for the MSLO brands in the digital domain.



This is a technical position: The ideal candidate should have a strong background in web content management systems, object-oriented design, application architecture and creation of and adherence to best practices. The candidate must have the demonstrable ability to create and manage technical specification artifacts, such as requirements analysis documents, UML and ER diagrams and use case/scenario specifications. Additionally, the candidate selected will be responsible for managing and performing hands-on development work, SDLC activities and maintenance as part of a collaborative team. Experience in an agile and/or nimble development environment is highly desired.



The abilities to design good software, inspire a team of smart resources and visualize the "big picture" are essential for success in this position. The individual in this role will work in close collaboration with the AVP, Internet Technology, peers and colleagues on the Digital Technology team and partners across the business in defining and understanding requirements and translating these into implementable solutions. The position reports to the AVP, Internet Technology.

Required Skills: Bachelor (4-year) degree or equivalent, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science



5+ years of hands-on development and/or architecture experience in a professional Internet and/or Intranet environment



Experience with open source development, MVC frameworks, the LAMP stack and Drupal is highly desired



Strong knowledge of object-oriented design and principles with excellent working knowledge of Object Oriented PHP



Good working knowledge of SQL



Experience with MySQL specifically, is desirable



Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax and XML



Experience with design patterns, UML modeling,



Entity Relationship diagrams and specification writing



Experience with a testing framework such as JUnit, SimpleTest or PHPUnit



Experience designing a concurrent application development environment including code repository management, unit and integration testing, user acceptance testing, deployments and release planning and management, using tools such as Ant or Maven



Strong quantitative and analytical skills with an interest in developing creative solutions that leverage disparate technologies with a focus on scalability and high availability



Must be skilled at developing solutions that are both consumer-facing, but also provide for essential back-office tools for production, management, reporting and analytics



Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively participate in the product development and project management processes



Experience with Agile methodologies is desirable
