Description: Summary:



Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is seeking a Web Application support Engineer with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in supporting web systems and applications. The candidate will be responsible for the support and maintenance of server-based application platforms primarily using the Weblogic application server, Vignette Portal, Vignette Content Management system, relational databases (Oracle and MySQL), Apache, Java, XML, PHP, Drupal and other Internet technologies.



The primary job responsibilities will be in maintaining performance, integrity, security, monitoring, backup and availability of the MSLO websites. The qualifying candidate will participates in all aspects of website engineering and operations, including implementation, maintenance, and documentation. (S)he will manage all system services including web servers, application servers, database servers and others as required, and will work closely with web developers, DBA?s, system administrators and web content producers to maintain the Internet sites and development environments, including site updates, code deployments and problem resolution. Knowledge of and/or experience with Cloud Computing environments and server virtualization is highly desirable.





Duties and Responsibilities:



Support and maintain Vignette Portal/Weblogic application infrastructure in development, QA and production environments.



Support and maintain Vignette Content Management, Subversion and Bugzilla systems.



Ensure the web site and development environments are operational and available on a 24 X 7 basis, in partnership with our managed hosting provider.



Work closely with developers, system administrators, networking engineers, database administrators and MSLO management to recommend, install, upgrade, and maintain software and hardware to ensure website availability and performance.



Responsible for monitoring and troubleshooting server application issues including troubleshooting and resolving problems for users, setup and monitoring of software applications and analyzing/recommending solutions.



Responsible for introducing new software to the site and managing all aspects of change control.



Responsible for problem diagnosis and triage, and providing developers and third-party vendors with adequate information to solve problems.



Assist customers with support issues regarding accessibility and performance.



Create and maintain web site management tools using Perl, Shell, PHP or other scripting languages or frameworks.



Use knowledge and experience of Internet protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SSL, SSH/SCP, ICMP, SMNP to resolve production and development technical problems.



Keep abreast of the cutting-edge technologies through research and training, especially with regard to open-source software stacks and Cloud Computing environments.



Assist in the development and maintenance of policies, documentation and operating procedures.



Work across sub-department teams in order to ensure seamless integration.



Ability to work up and down the leadership chain.



Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required Skills: Bachelor (4-year) degree or equivalent, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science.



Proficiency in working with UNIX/Linux systems.



Knowledge of Apache/Tomcat and LAMP administration.



Knowledge of BEA Weblogic administration.



Knowledge of Vignette Portal administration (will train if necessary).



Strong of UNIX shell scripting (sh, ksh, bash) and automated system jobs.



Experience with performance monitoring and tuning.



Experience with planning for disaster recovery and business continuity.
